People always ask, "What happens if you upgrade your memory with 3rd party memory not sold by your System Manufacturer?"  The truth is that you have the freedom to buy and use any memory that meets the specifications that your system requires.  Thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, enacted in 1975 it basically states this...

"the federal statute governs warranties on consumer products. The law does not require any product to have a warranty (it may be sold "as is"), but if it does have a warranty, the warranty must comply with this law. The law was created to fix problems as a result of manufacturers using disclaimers on warranties in an unfair or misleading manner."
